On the go with Carlos

Walking around on Saturday afternoon, I stopped by Yuka Bar in the East Village with my friend Ross. Our bartender, Carlos, was an Argentinean fellow who served us a couple good bloody mary’s. I asked him his favorite Argentinean food in the city.

Carlos recommends:
Boca Junior Restaurant
8108 Queens Boulevard
Elmhurst, NY 11373
(718) 429-2077

He says there are a ton of soccer posters (Boca Juniors is a top soccer club), history and a great atmosphere. As far as dishes, Carlos mentioned the Asada and Churrasco.

We later stopped by La Esquina (not the downstairs part but the open-air stand) for a burger and fish taco.

That area around Broome and Mott is fascinating. You have the tourists of Little Italy, Chinatown and a few other cultures mixing in as well. There’s a Bangladeshi deli right around the corner for example. I don’t mean just the owners, but the people in there are all watching Bangladeshi TV and catching up on the news from back home.

You can literally travel the world within just a few blocks. Even on the same block sometimes. Everybody’s doing their thing, it’s quite harmonious in fact, and only in NY probably.

On a side note, I also hung out with Zero. Zero likes to hang out in a bag.
