Meet Larissa

Larissa stopped by to drop off some audio files at the office today. She’s been writing, interviewing and producing for us (great profiles such Amy Sedaris, David Wain and Gretchen Mol). She’s got a few more surprises up her sleeve too (eventhough she’s not wearing sleeves today)!

Thanks La!

In The Field with Deerhoof

Deerhoof is in town for a few days for the premiere of Dedication for which they contributed a few songs.

Alvina Collardeau and I got to spend some time with them today. They’re from SanFran but they’ve been and played in New York countless times over the years. It’s great to hear about NY from the perspective of a traveling band. And just to hang out with Deerhoof too!

In the Field with Fred Wilson

Alvina and I interviewed Fred Wilson of Union Square Ventures today. Fred has been in New York over 20 years, shaping the tech industry along the way. He talked passionately about the city and his industry.

Big thank you to Nando and Alvina Collardeau.

Jacques Roch is ontheinside!

This week, we are honored to have Jacques Roch share his New York with us. Here’s an extra sketch that he drew of Union Square that we didn’t use in the feature:

Also, his monotypes are pretty great, you can see them here:

On the go with Nelson Chunir

I hit a bar with my friend Marta this past weekend, and ended up brainstorming some ideas for OTI. Was a lot of fun. I call it the “Marta Sessions”:

Then, this gentleman Nelson Chunir started chatting us up. He’s Ecuadorean, and works as a super in various buildings on that block. I guess he was just hanging out after his shift.

We asked him his favorite place to eat in the city: Barzola, an Ecuadorean restaurant in Queens.

Barzola
9212 37th Ave
Flushing, NY 11372

He says it’s delicious, his favorite dish is the “Ceviche de Camaron” and the place turns into a dance party later in the evenings.

Sounds like a good old time.

In the Field with Beat The Devil

I saw Beat The Devil open for Stellastar a couple months back, loved their music and had to track them down for OTI. I got a chance to interview them today, out in Greenpoint by their recording space.

Here’s an early performance from when they were resident at Piano’s.

OTI on a leisurely sunday

Frangito (our web designer extraordinaire) and I went for sunday Bloody Mary’s with friends this past weekend. Cheap and good.

We oughta start recommending places!
